Even before the complete idea for Blue Collar came to Grocott, he and Dwyer had been working with the fabric in other ways, weathering it and using it in other presentations. Most recently, they incorporated it into an organizer at the Howard Hughes complex in LA.
I’m Dead To This World T-shirt This fabric is a wonderful combination of comfortable materials found in the Black Country of England, the French countryside and the Northeastern United States. These materials include old bedsheets and sacks, peasant cuts and shallow cuts, some old patches and repairs, some wicked details. Once stitched together, the fabric is used sealed colors from India, America and Japan through traditional engineering techniques.

“This fabric has been with us for about five years and this fabric has been around for 300 years,” Dwyer explains. “So these 300 years of fabric were hand-stitched together and then dyed with three types of pigments. Now, we use them in many different ways, such as aging them in the field. When we put them out in the field to age, this is not a project.”
To achieve different weathering effects on the fabric, Grocott and Dwyer placed various sections of the fabric in three separate locations in the mountains of Northern California. One location had dappled light, another was too exposed, and a third was on a hillside. Part of the cloth was tied tightly around a large rock that the grazing cows butted against with their huge long horns. Another is wrapped around large pillars in the sun. The fabrics were then left outdoors for three months before Grocott and Dwyer returned to retrieve them. I’m Dead To This World T-shirt
